Essential Competencies

Communication Practitioners need a range of competencies to be successful in today’s global workplace.

In order to identify the requirements of communication practitioners and managers, it is important to examine the roles and functions of the profession and the expected capabilities of the people working within it.

Competencies have three components: knowledge, skills and personal attributes.

Knowledge
What practitioners are required to know to perform their job.

Skills
The activities involving ideas, people or technical skills which practitioners perform with ease.

Personal Attributes
The character traits, attitudes and values practitioners require.
